<a grey area>

work samples / artist statement / resume

Investigating the biology behind memory, questioning the perception of time, considering many sociological theories and wondering about the grey areas and liminal spaces have directed my work.  I make art in order to understand.  Communication is essential.  Understanding what is conveyed is entirely based on perception.  I am interested in how we communicate, both verbally and non-verbally, and how we learn from these acts of communication.  Observing these interactions and the visible negotiating processes people go through reveals a considerable amount of information.  This information helps guide our understanding of the human experience.

I am an observer.  I observe moments between people in order to learn something new.  These moments might be critical or trivial.  Either way, in the time and space they occur, peoples’ actions are unrepeatable...very situational.  Every single moment in that person’s life led to the point in which I observe.  These moments, collectively define who people are as individuals and in turn help to define what it is to be human.
